Marcia Evans, known professionally as Nia Orea, is an electronic and dance musician.
Nia Orea’s musical style spans a range of styles within the Electronic and ‘EDM’ genres, with flirtations into Trap, Pop, Future Bass and Hip Hop.
She describes her overall sound as “Urban bass” with influences from artists such as Flume, Bonobo, Flying Lotus and Diplo,
Her love for music started young. “My uncle was Bob Marley’s manager, so I met a myriad of interesting musicians at an early age. I also played the piano and was always involved in my school choir. I grew up in a house with the stereo permanently on, and a stone’s throw from Jamaica’s infamous sound system street parties”.
Nia Orea kicked off her music career by producing local Dancehall acts and produced a medley called ‘Push Start Riddim’, a successful Jamaican riddim which featured various Jamaican artists, distributed via Def Jam.
Nia independently pushed out an early mixtape entitled ‘Profiles’ in 2013.
The release quickly gained recognition worldwide and was announced Beat Tape of the Week by online hip-hop album reviewers ‘Dead End Hip Hop’, while her track ‘Often’ reached #4 on the Wavo Garage Charts which was picked up by other key tastemakers online.
Nia Orea went onto releasing a taster house track called “Feels So” which became popular worldwide via Instagram with popular LED Shoe Company “Flashgear” with dancers participating in her #FeelSoChallenge competition. The track is due for an official release later this year.
EDM Thrones featured her hit track “Colours” on their “New hits you have to listen!“ list. Which was also played listed on “Resident Advisor” and played via various radio stations in the states including spins on “Pandora Radio”.
Nia Orea has just released her new EP called ‘Gifted’.
